When you think of love what’s the 1st thing that comes to mind?
Well for us it’s family. The core of our family is our grandparents. They always have been. Growing up they were our best friends, our babysitters, our whole life. Looking back, they were painting trees out of the back yard with the gazebo set to the side on a canvas, they were peanut butter sandwiches, building birdhouses, camping, hiking up the mountains, fishing & most of all the phone calls crying when we moved from Virginia to Florida when we were little. When you have struggles or worries in this family, they are the 1st you call. Even If it’s just a 15-minute phone call on speaker with both. Typically, in that 15 minutes all the problems we’re facing are solved. A lot of times all we ever really needed to hear from our pawpaw and nanny was that they love us and no matter what they were here for us. They have always pulled through for our family. Especially when no one else would. So, as their grandkids we must be the ones to make sure they are doing okay. It’s our turn to be the ones that they must lean on, all while still being strong.
During the years watching them age and go through illnesses have been difficult. Here recently our grandfather Curtis Dyess SR was diagnosed with an infection in his lungs, then shortly was diagnosed with lung cancer. Ultimately this is a battle he will fight and win! He retired just a few years ago and, in that time, he won his battle with prostate cancer. We were all thinking we were in the clear. They moved from St. Augustine FL to Salt Springs FL. With our pawpaw’s love for fishing, he was able to take his boat out and relax. I mean, when you retire after all those years of working…providing…this was his chance to start living. Now he can spend his retirement loving my grandmother Elizabeth Dyess, fishing with his sons, and as always tending to his grand babies. Unfortunately, that was short lived when we got the diagnosis. Our grandfather plans to start Chemo and radiation in the coming weeks, while fighting the infection in his lungs.
He also is a diabetic and has many medications he takes.
We are taking up donations for the cost of medications, travel to and from St. Augustine/Jacksonville for treatment 6 days a week and cost of living. We have been very adamant about making sure both are comfortable and have everything they need. Even if it’s cooking dinner, going over there for a cup of coffee, or tending to yardwork.
Our grandmother or as we like to call her nanny is a very independent strong minded southern by the grace of God lady. She has love so big for our pawpaw. She is wearing herself out, appointment after appointment, driving back and forth. Obviously, we are worried about them both as her back is not in good shape.
We just want healing and continued prayers that our family will get through this.
ALL donations are greatly appreciated. Even if you cannot donate, please say a prayer for our pawpaw and nanny. The power of prayer works in ways we cannot imagine.
We are a God-fearing family and we know the Lord will shower us. We ask for as many prayers as possible. Thank you all.
Hi everyone,
we are Alyssa and Felicity. Our grandfather or PawPaw is our grandfather on our dad's side of the family. One thing we can say is our parents have always told us to fight for what we believe in! We are here asking for donations to help a very special person in our life and someone who means everything to us. We believe that the power of prayer & your help will help our family. Donations are appreciated but if you can't donate we understand. We know that the world we live in today is crazy, but a prayer goes a long way.
We have other ideas on raising money but we know this would reach a larger audience, friends & family.
Unfortunately, like our dad we are "fixers" and this is a situation we cannot fix. We do know that we HAD to do something to help.
All of us grandkids love our grandparents dearly.
P.S. we were told to not worry but we are worrying. We are sorry dad!
P.S.S we love you nanny & pawpaw!
XOXO,
your girls!
