For the past 19 years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as the garden teacher at Orca, working alongside students, families, and fellow educators to grow not just food, but curiosity, care for the earth, and a sense of responsibility to one another. Garden education and sustainability have been my life’s work, and over the years I’ve been grateful to reach and learn from thousands of students. Watching young people connect their hands to the soil and understand where food comes from has been one of the greatest joys of my life.
Recently, my life changed suddenly when I was hit by a car while riding my bike. The accident was severe, resulting in a broken femur and a long, difficult recovery. I am currently relearning how to walk and working through extensive physical therapy. Because the driver was underinsured, I am facing significant out-of-pocket medical and recovery costs. I never imagined needing to ask for help this way, but any support you’re able to give will go directly toward medical bills, physical therapy, and the ongoing costs of healing from this accident. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and for being part of the community that has meant so much to me.
