On Friday, April 17th in North Philadelphia my friend, Emily Ocelus, was involved in a hit and run. Emily had just left her Temple apartment and was attempting to enter a friends car. Someone driving a stolen SUV, the wrong way down a one-way street at high speeds stuck Emily. Having no time to react Emily was thrown by the car down the street. The driver immediately fled the scene, leaving her friend to care for her until first responders arrived.
Emily is currently hospitalized awaiting numerous surgeries at Temple University Hospital. Doctors are optimistic that with a long road of surgeries and rehabilitation, Emily will be able to recover and eventually walk again.
What we do know is that this is going to be an extremely long and painful healing process for Emily. I have decided to put together a fund to help lessen the financial burden that has been placed on both Emily and Kiana because of this tragedy. I want Emily to be solely focused on making a full recovery rather than worrying about her medical bills. Anyone who knows Emily knows that she is the sweetest, most caring friends you could ever ask for. She would both give the shirt off her back to help anyone in need. Now is a time I am asking my community to rally together and help however you can.
