Help our friend whilst she fights cancer
Donation protected
We are raising money for our friend, Abbie, who in December 2023 at the age of 27 was diagnosed with primary mediastinal large B-Cell lymphoma which is a cancer in her chest.
The tumour measured 15cm in circumference.
She started working for the NHS at the age of 18 and at the age of 24 left her secretarial role to pursue her dream job as an Oncology Nurse. During this time as a Student Nurse she did 2000+ hours of unpaid work as part of her training. Once qualified and finally able to work her dream job in Oncology, just one month later she was sadly diagnosed with the awful disease and had to go on sick to commence chemotherapy treatment.
Unfortunately, as she was a student who was not classed as “employed” by the Trust during her training, her years of service no longer counted and therefore sick pay was only granted for 1 months full pay and 2 months half pay. Had she not done her Nursing, she would have received 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay.
She has a mortgage to pay and her partner is working overtime so they don’t go short, but soon she will have no income. At this moment she is undergoing treatment and is unsure when she will be able to return to work. We don’t want her to have to return to work too soon just to pay the bills, and risk her health even further.
Macmillan has very kindly granted her £300 as a one off payment however in this current climate it won’t cover much.
We have done this off our own backs, she has not asked us to do this for her. Abbie has been the most amazingly positive and happy person throughout the whole ordeal and has not complained about it once. We just think it’s a bit unfair that she has worked for the NHS for 10 years and cannot control what has happened, but cannot reap the benefits of this.
We know not everybody is in a position to contribute financially but if you could even just contribute by sharing this then it would mean the world to us and to Abbie❤️

Abbie has been looked after by the Teenage Cancer Trust on Ward 33 and they have been absolutely amazing in looking after her. She would like to mention a special thank you in particular to Claire, Charlene and Vic.
