Help our friend Michael to find a home!

Many people will know our friend Michael, who has been a big part of activism in the community in Croydon and South London for over a decade – most recently as an organiser with C4P.

Michael is always there when we need him, turning up to meetings and protests through thick and thin. Though far too modest about his writing, many of us have benefited from his commentary. And alongside his insecure work in education, Michael has been volunteering as a researcher for the Citizens' Advice Bureau for 5 years.

But now Michael's landlord has served him with a Section 21 notice, requiring him to leave his room – where he has lived for 4 years – by 8th July. Michael’s landlord is also pressuring him to leave before this date. There have been many problems with this landlord in the past, but Michael's work situation makes moving difficult. He has tried reaching out to Croydon Council for help, but (via Homefinder UK) they are only offering to house him outside London altogether. We don't want him to go!

We know how important Michael is to our community in Croydon, and a group of friends and neighbours are coming together to help him to stay.

Michael is still trying to find a new home, and we would invite anyone with any leads to come forwards. The biggest barriers at the moment are finding a deposit and the first month's rent, before Michael can register his new home with Universal Credit.

For this reason, we have set an immediate target of £1600:
