Help our friend, Joe Sweeney! He needs us now!

It is with the support and urging of his close friends that this GoFundMe has been set up. As you may or may not yet be aware, my Dads health has quickly turned dire and many have asked how they can help.

Over the summer, my Dad had skin cancer removed from his leg. In a short time, the cancer quickly metastasized into a Stage IV cancer. On September 14, he was taken to the hospital and treated for complications related to the cancer. Since that day, he has been moved from Fairfax Hospital to a rehabilitation facility, back to the hospital and now resides in a nursing home. Dad has not been home since September 14th.

We have been told that the best treatment Dad can receive is now limited to quality of life. With that news, and knowing he will deteriorate fast, my Dad has asked to go to Idaho with me to receive humane and dignified care for what time he has left. We depart Saturday, November 4th with the help of an ambulatory ground transport that specializes in this kind of service. Once back in Idaho, I will get him enrolled in Idaho’s Medicaid system and placed in a medically adept and attentive nursing home two miles from my house so my kids and I will be able to keep the love and care flowing.

At some point we may transition Dad back to my home for hospice care with the help of nursing support as funds allow. But this can only be done with help from others. Unless you have been through a similar situation, you have no idea how quickly medical bills can add up to an insurmountable cost.

Family, friends and health are so precious, as these times always show us.
