Helping Our Friend in Jamaica Rebuild His Life
Back in March 2019, while staying at a lovely hotel on Jamaica’s South Coast, we met a young man named Garett, who worked there as a waiter. From the moment we met him, we knew there was something special about him.
Garett was warm, genuine, and kind — the sort of person who went out of his way to help, not because he had to, but because that’s just who he was. Tips weren’t allowed at the hotel, so it was never about money. He simply cared about people and took pride in making others feel welcome. He made us laugh calling me Boss & my wife Lady Shell
When we left, Phil gave Garett his phone number, and from then on we kept in touch. He messaged me on UK Mothers Day to wish Shell a happy Mother’s Day he is always thinking of others in the kindest of ways .
Every few months, he’d message just to ask how we were doing and to share a bit about his own life. He always dreamed of becoming a policeman, and we were so proud when he told us he’d started university to work towards that goal. Through hard work and determination, Garett has now achieved that dream and become a policeman — something he truly deserves.
Recently, with the terrible hurricanes and floods that have hit Jamaica, we contacted him to see how he was — and were heartbroken to learn that he has lost everything. His home and belongings have been destroyed, and he’s now facing a really tough time trying to rebuild his life.
We want to help Garett in whatever small way we can, and we know that even the smallest gesture can make a big difference. So we’ve set up this GoFundMe page in the hope that our friends and family might join us in supporting him.
If you can spare even a few pounds, it would mean the world — not just to Garett, but to us as well. He’s someone who has always given kindness without expecting anything in return, and now it’s our chance to give a little kindness back.
Thank you so much for reading and for any help you can give.
kindest regards
Michelle & Phil Poser ( UK)
