Shortly after getting married and starting a new chapter of their lives in New Zealand, Aistis and Gabrielė experienced a terrifying attack in the home where they were staying.

In the early hours of September 4, while the couple was asleep in their bedroom, their roommate entered the room and attacked Aistis, striking him repeatedly in the face and head. Aistis suffered two fractured eye sockets and is now facing further medical evaluation, including a consultation with a facial surgeon in Christchurch to determine whether surgery will be necessary.

The attack has also left both of them dealing with serious psychological effects, including anxiety, flashbacks, difficulty sleeping and panic symptoms. They no longer feel safe returning to their previous accommodation.

The couple is currently staying in a hotel while looking for safe temporary accommodation in the central South Island. They also need to manage Aistis's ongoing medical care and the unexpected costs caused by this traumatic situation.

We are asking for support to help Aistis and Gabrielė cover medical and recovery-related expenses, temporary accommodation, transportation and other essential costs while they rebuild their sense of safety and begin to recover.
