A friend of ours was a victim of a romance scam and lost their entire life’s savings. All this person has left is social security, which barely covers their basic needs.

Over the past eight years, they faced one heartbreak after another: losing their job, going through a painful divorce, watching their only child move away, and then the death of their beloved dog. Each of these would be hard enough alone, but together they left our friend isolated and vulnerable. They weren’t careless or greedy, just lonely, hopeful, and trusting. Like so many others, they believed in love and connection, and someone took advantage of that trust in the cruelest way.

Despite this last devastating setback, they’re determined to rebuild their life by moving to a new place and finding work to improve their situation. Unfortunately, just as they were making plans, their car’s clutch seized up. The repair will cost about $4,300—far more than they can afford. This fundraiser is simply to get their car repaired, so they can move forward, literally and figuratively, with their life.

Because of limited mobility, walking long distances isn’t an option, and without a working car, they have no reliable transportation to get to job opportunities or even meet daily needs.

Our friend has always been kind, humble, and generous. They never imagined needing help like this, but right now, they truly need a hand up.
