Our friend Didi was involved in a serious scooter accident and suffered significant injuries to his head and face. He has multiple fractures in his face and skull, along with swelling and small internal bleedings. Luckily, doctors expect a full recovery, and his brain appears unharmed.

In Indonesia, medical care often has to be paid out of pocket, and there is little financial support. Hospital bills can quickly become overwhelming. Because of his injuries, Didi is unable to work for some time, which means he currently has no income on top of the medical expenses.

We met Didi while he was working as a tour guide during a Komodo tour and immediately got to know him as a warm and welcoming person who is always ready to help others. During the low season, Komodo tours stop, which means his regular work disappears. To support himself and his family, Didi takes whatever work comes his way; think about guiding trips around Lombok through a contact from the Komodo tours, helping his uncle with welding, and running a small fishing trip business together with his brother. Despite always working when opportunities arise, unexpected medical costs like these are impossible for him to cover alone.
