Help Our Friend Debbie Smith Recover
Hi,
As some of you may already know, Tuesday, 8.24.21, Debbie went to convenient Care for what she thought was a stye or pink eye. She was sent to the hospital, and was given IV antibiotics and fluids for what was initially thought to be an eye infection. She was sent home, and asked to follow up with her primary doctor, who gave her two antibiotics for what again was thought to be an eye infection and was sent home.
Not long after, she received a call from the hospital, her lab results showed a blood infection and she was instructed to return to the hospital immediately for treatment.
Debbie was admitted, and diagnosed with TWO infections in her blood.
She will be hospitalized until at least later this week, and when released will have a PICC line placed for at least another 4-6 weeks of IV antibiotics, rendering her unable to work.
Earlier this year, Debbie had to have her thyroid removed at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
Because of that surgery and recovery being so recent, she doesn't have enough sick time left and will be unable to work for at least 5 weeks without pay, in addition to mounting medical bills.
Debbie is always first in line to offer help to anyone she can. She has assisted with countless benefits,
is an integral part of the Bunny's Bash MDA fundraiser, which sends kids to summer camp.
She attends and participates in any fundraiser she can, is there with food for someone who is ill or has lost a family member, and regularly
volunteers to assist the homeless community in the Champaign/Urbana area.
- She is a kind, loving and giving woman with a huge heart.
She needs OUR help now.
Anything you are able to give will be received with humble gratitude.
