Help our friend David Bloom!

Hi all! Our beloved friend David Bloom has fallen on really hard times. His van broke down and then he lost his job because he couldn’t drive. He no longer has a source of income and filed for unemployment, but after weeks of waiting and calling he has yet to receive his funds and there is no indication that he’ll be getting that any time soon. He has also lost his dog and best friend, Bosco. And to top it off he has started losing more teeth. I started this GoFundMe in order to raise funds to feed him, fix the van so he can return to work, and if we can make it happen I’d love to get him dentures.

Bloom has been a close friend and mentor to me, and I know he has touched the lives of so many folks in the climbing community. He always has a smile and will share a climb or a bowl with anyone. He has dedicated so many years to the climbing community, let’s give some of that compassion and love back to our dear friend and fellow climber, Bloom. Cheers to an epic human and thanks a million for any help you can lend right now and please share!!

For those of you who don’t know Dave, he is a badass and incredibly accomplished climber who has done a lot to push the sport forward during his almost forty years of climbing. Folks call him the Doctor or the Godfather of Northern AZ climbing. He has authored five guidebooks for Northern AZ and Southern UT, including Paradise Forks, Sedona, and the Creek. He has over 500 first ascents of trad, sport and multi-pitch all across the Colorado Plateau.

Bloom started climbing in 1983 in the Gunks and Ragged Mountain while in school at Hampshire College, where he created rock climbing programming for incoming students. He moved to Portland in 1986 for chiropractic school and climbed during the golden age of Smith Rock from 86-90. He then moved to Flagstaff and began his love affair with the southwest, where he continues to develop and reside.

Some of Bloom’s notable climbs include:
* An early free ascent if Moonlight Buttress in Zion, 1999
* First team free ascent and fourth overall ascent of Regular Rt on NW face of Half Dome with Micah Dash, 2003
* Numerous speed ascents in Yosemite including Nose in a day onsight, 21 hours
* West Face of El Cap, 8 hours
* Half Dome NW Face, 6 hours
* Several unrepeated sport testpieces in Northern AZ
