Please help my best friend Angel. Living in these times as a Mexican-Indigenous trans person, they need our help more than ever.
They are a dear friend of mine and a beacon of the Minneapolis queer community. They have brought so many people together and helped people make close friends in a city known for being quite introverted. They started up a weekly meetup club at a local coffee shop called Caffetto downtown. They started this to help others find connections in a friendly environment, without any substances or need to pay. They helped hundreds of people make new friends, partners, and entirely new friend groups.
On the night of July 14th, their boyfriend Robin disappeared. Leaving only a few notes behind, Angel was destroyed. They called police, friends, family; anyone to try and see where he could've gone. They spent hours driving around the twin cities, trying to find any trace of Robin. The next day, Robin was found dead from a suicide. With no family to support either Angel or Robin, Angel was left with the task of picking up the pieces and setting everything up. Setting up the funeral for their own boyfriend is taking a toll on them that no one else understands.
But now things have taken a turn for the worse.
Today, on July 17th at 5:45 P.M., we were taking the 35-W to Guitar Center. Driving to go pick up a hard case to protect Robin's old guitar. While in the HOV lane going at highway speeds, a stopped Prius pulled out in front of us from the center-right lane. With only moments to react, Angel slammed on the brakes. But it was too late. Their car smashed into the back of the Prius and slid into the left shoulder. Several other cars were involved, slamming into each other and sliding over into the right shoulder. Despite the severity of the pile-up, no one was badly injured. Their car is going to the shop, but it doesn't look very good. The steering is shot, and it will take days before they can know the status of their car. With no transportation to and from work they desperately need a hand.
Angel has been through more than anyone could ever handle. Losing their boyfriend, their car, and suffering from not only emotional torment, but now having to heal and rest from the crash. They need all of our help. And in a country that is actively destroying the lives of its own people, especially trans people and especially anyone of Mexican and Indigenous descent, they need everything that you can give them.
Any donations help tremendously, and even if you can’t donate, just sharing the link helps out a ton. Thank you.
