Our foster dog, Butch, is 4 years old but has been through a lot. He was hit by a car and brought into Pima Animal Care Center in December 2020. Butch needed a double FHO surgery to fix both of his hips, but he needed to be in foster care first. He waited in the shelter until March 2021 when we began fostering him. After his double FHO surgery, he began a slow and long rehabilitation process to walk normally and without pain. He was on the right track, regaining his strength and personality, when he tore the CCL ligament in his knee, what would be the equivalent of an ACL tear in humans.
The clinic at PACC could not perform the surgery because it is too expensive. Once a dog tears one ligament it is very likely they will tear the other. The clinic told us our options were to get him surgery and hope he doesn't tear the other one, or if we don't get the surgery he will remain on pain meds for the rest of his life and still potentially tear the other ligament.
Butch is a kind, loving, young, and energetic dog who is just starting his life. We want to get him the surgery so he can finally live out the rest of his long life free from pain and capable of doing all the normal dog activities.
We have taken him to a specialist that has estimated the surgery to cost around $5200. My roommate and I just graduated from college and do not have the funds to pay for the entirety of his surgery. We really appreciate any and all help given and we know Butch will enjoy getting to take long walks, run around, jump, and be a normal dog once again.
