Story
I’m Najee Werners and I wrote & directed a short film called ‘Someone Lied on the Roommate Form’. An action-comedy where Roommates ShaClean O'Neil and Lionel Messy have a catastrophic clash concerning cleanliness. I grew up in Curaçao, a small island in the Caribbean and I’ve been a filmmaker since I was about 14/15 years old. So when I moved to the U.S. for college and made a short for $300 that I paid out of pocket, I never expected something like this to make it into film festivals. But, earlier this year the film began its festival run at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, a major festival.
What the money is for
You might be wondering why we need to raise money then. Well, since we didn’t raise any money for this film, we don’t have the budget to pay for the entry fees for a bunch of festivals. Even more expensive, than that is recording the score. We really want to record a live version of the score with real musicians. It would sound better, and especially since it’s primarily a jazz score, give the movie even more life. This is where the bulk of the money would go to. We need to rent a recording studio and hire musicians so the talented people on the music team can bring the amazing score to its full potential.
Eventually, the film will go public on YouTube once the score is complete, and the festival run is over. For now, we’ve put together a teaser for those who haven’t seen the film or for those who have to spread the word. We appreciate any amount you’re able to donate. If you can’t please share the teaser to build hype for the public release.
