Our cat Lando, fondly known as the Beeb, was diagnosed a year ago with an aggressive sinonasal adenocarcinoma. In the past year, he’s undergone radiation therapy and oral chemo to great effect, shrinking the tumor bit by bit.
Unfortunately, we’re no longer gong to be able to continue his chemo due to escalated kidney disease—but this week we did one last monitoring CT scan to see how the cancer is doing. The damage for the CT was in the vicinity of $5000, and we spent a good chunk of change on his recheck and bloodwork with them two weeks ago, when his team (understandably) delayed his CT to determine whether his kidney (he only has one!) could handle it given escalated kidney values at that appointment.
We don’t have CT results back yet, but we do have a large bill sitting in our laps, and this afternoon I will take Lando’s brother George in for his semi-annual exam and bloodwork. If past is prediction, we’re going to be looking at another $1500 or so for that, with very comprehensive senior bloodwork, vaccines, and so forth. We love our vets and they’re worth every penny—it’s important to know that vet care is more expensive in Canada, and is even more expensive when you live on an island, where all supplies must come in by boat.
The total of all this vet care for our older boys adds up fast—and I’ve set the goal about $1000 higher than the actual vet care to cover all GoFundMe’s fees via the percentage they take off the top of donations.
As ever, if you cannot afford to or don’t want to help, please don’t for a second feel bad and please don’t feel compelled, but we know what it is to feel helpless, and we know how very much so many of you love our sweet Beeb and our . If you want to be a part of helping Lando have as much happy, comfortable time as possible to carry on beebing along beebily and being made of love, and if you want to be a part of helping George to have as much time as possible to threaten (and occasionally inflict) bodily harm to his mothers, this is the single most important way you can help.
Above all, remember, Lando loves you.
So do we.
Hard to say if George does, but he’s definitely judging you.
