I’ve done two of these for friends who needed the help but never one for my own family. It’s extremely uncomfortable to put this out there but we need help.
My father raised myself and my two siblings as a single father and always put us first. He wasn’t always perfect but he always showed us what unconditional love was, how to work hard for what you want how family never gives up on one another. His generosity is unmatched, even when he has nothing to give. Once at a soccer game of mine when I was a kid, another parent was crying because she couldn’t make rent and was facing eviction. My dad asked her what was wrong, she told him and he wrote her a check for all her overdue expenses. No questions asked; didn’t even get her contact info, didn’t want anything in return. He has done stuff like this his entire life.
My father went to the hospital for pancreatitis on June 1st and he was given a combination of sedatives which was too strong for him. He overdosed on it and went into respiratory failure and was put in a ventilator. He was unresponsive for approximately 12 days. I demanded they stop all sedation and several days later he finally woke up. He is struggling with symptoms similar to a stroke. He needs to learn to walk and talk again, use his hands, eat and drink, etc. We are praying that there is no permanent brain damage but at this point it cannot be ruled out.
He was visiting my brother in California when this happened and his health insurance is Maryland based. As of today, his hospital bill is $215,000 and rising by the day. After this hospitalization, he will need to attend an inpatient acute physical therapy facility, which is also self pay, as his insurance won’t cover a variety of services he needs (out of state), such as this one. He is way too sick to travel back to Maryland to receive care at this time, unfortunately.
These funds will go towards providing my dad with the medical care he needs, his living expenses (as he is unable to work), home rehabilitation and mobility equipment and medical bills if there is anything left over.
We are so grateful for all the support, love, and prayers during this heartbreaking time.
Lastly, for those who would like to send him a card, care package, (no restrictions on items allowed) etc:

UPDATE!
THANK YOU for all the prayers and donations. My dad is making improvements!! He is off the ventilator and feeding tube and is beginning his long journey of getting back to his normal. He is still in the hospital but we are thinking he may be moved to a skilled nursing facility next week, where they will work with him to gain his mobility and independence back. I am so grateful! This has been a horrible experience; today makes 3 weeks that’s he’s been in the hospital/ICU.
