During the last week, our farm was hit by relentless storms that brought over 48 inches of rain. The wind drove the rain under the structures we built for our pigs, filling their pens with more than a foot of water. On Saturday, I worked to reinforce the pens with temporary walls to stop the rain from coming in under the roofs. To protect the pigs from hypothermia, I bought 40 bales of straw and the same amount of pellet bedding, creating a barrier between the mud and the babies. Every resource we had went into keeping the pigs safe, but the costs have quickly added up to thousands of dollars.
Now, we’re facing a tough road ahead. The funds we raise will go directly to buying more bedding and helping with feed, since most of our money has already gone to bedding the pigs. Our farm means food security for our community, and by helping us get through this, you’ll be ensuring that we can continue to provide quality pork to our friends, family, and neighbors. Your support will make a real difference in helping us recover from this disaster and keep our farm going.
