That is a picture of our current hoophouse this week.
Hiya! My name is Sarah. Chris and I have been farming full-time for four years.
We have always dreamt of homesteading and living off the land. In 2016, we started Little BearFox Farm and started farming by growing 800 tomatoes on an 1/8th of an acre borrowed from a friend. We sold them at two farmers’ markets.
In 2018, we were able to purchase our current 10-acre farm in Elsie, Oregon! Where we currently grow and deliver fresh produce and eggs to 35 families in our community.
We currently have a greenhouse that is 1,000 square feet (we are so grateful for the support we got to rebuild it). This year was a really difficult growing season. That greenhouse saved us. We would not have had enough produce for CSA friends.
We want to install a 2300 sqft hoop-house that will allow us to grow fresh produce almost year round. We are currently approved for a USDA high tunnel grant which covers the cost of purchasing a hoophouse. However, we are required to purchase and install it prior to receiving the grant money. We do not have the money to cover the upfront costs of installing this hoophouse. With the current uncertainty of the weather due to climate change, the installation of a hoop-house will allow us to produce more consistent fresh vegetables for our community.
We love growing food and sharing food with others. Our hope for next year is to grow even more and to give most of it away! We would work with local groups that would get the food to people that needed it.
