Help Our Family During This Tender Time

Dear, dear friends,

As many of you know our family been deeply tried for several years. This has not been mom's cancer alone. We have each endured severe tribulations leaving us bereft in many ways:

BECKY (MOM)
Mom was diagnosed in August of 2022 with terminal Stage 4 Colon and Kidney Cancers. This came as a shock to the family due to her lifelong clean bill of health. She immediately endured multiple procedures including surgery, the results of which left her unable to walk, incontinent and with a colostomy bag. She needed instant 24-7 care and our home was rapidly transformed into a care center. She encountered countless setbacks, multiple hospitalizations, and a number of close calls. However, she beat the odds, fighting repeatedly to regain strength each and every time. This determination, along with the help of her loved ones, medical professionals and home health support, added at least a year to her life. She truly battled to the end - always dreaming of her "miracle." In her last days, she expressed she missed many things but valiently endured to the end. Many commented what a blessing she was in their lives as she portrayed grace and compassion to others. Even up until her last hours, she had a hopeful spirit and made it a priority to be a positive presence online & in person. We consider your love, prayers, meals, and friendship as being a real part of a heavenly miracle.

TASHA
Due to Tasha's complex health situation, she lives in the medical triangle of NC - without family nearby - to receive care from top practitioners. She's unable to work full-time and has spent years in intensive rehabilitation therapies. She's defied the odds of her prognosis but it seems any time there's progress, there's an opposing force creating significant setbacks. Many of you have remarked she "just can't catch a break!" This last year has been especially hard. After finally making some headway medically, she was assaulted over Christmas. The recovery & legal process has been on-going and taxing. She also underwent surgery that still bears complications. In the Spring, she was in a serious car accident traveling home to see Mom. This totaled her car and impacted her on many levels. The years of near-death experiences and compounding trauma are overwhelming. However, she will be the first to express faith and say "miracles happen in life!" She feels very grateful to loved ones who have held space, offered resources, and support the work she can do. She considers it a sacred calling to witness suffering and seeks to forge forward - helping the world with opportunities for hope and healing.

PERLA
A year and a half ago, Perla sustained a traumatic brain injury while cleaning for her parents at home. She was immediately admitted to the concussion clinic at Medstar National Rehab and literally prescribed to live in darkness and isolation for months in order for her brain to recover. She has been under the care of 9 different doctors and is required to participate in multiple, exhausting therapies even to this day. She has been unable to work and is currently forced to endure deprivations and adjustments in order to function within her daily life. She is making progress and has improved greatly! She may even be cleared to start working part-time soon but life - for now - requires a new normal. This has created great loss for her. She is indebted to all you for the friendship, gifts, calls and prayers on her behalf. She has deeply missed her community and looks forward to being able to spend time with you - especially without severe limitations - sooner than later.

STEVE (DAD)
Dad has tirelessly supported his little family of women. He has been Becky's bedside champion and Perla and Tasha's pillar of support. He took on the role of primary caregiver 2 years ago after Mom's diagnosis and his life became solely dedicated to making sure she got to all her appointments, tracking her many medicines/supplements; learning how to cook; and laboring diligently behind-the-scenes by managing care and keeping up with paperwork. He has carried many burdens emotionally as well as financially in making sure his women get the care they all need. He has done so dutifully and with great love. He is an example of enduring to the end and continues to faithfully serve in the temple and attend church. His many sacrifices and attempts to help are noble. Without him knowing, we have heard him call on God with a trusting heart - petitioning the heavens - to help his family. His spirit is stalwart and we desire he experience a sense of support and relief amidst such a time of loss and grief.

Despite the mountains our family has been called to climb, our faith stands unshaken in the Lord our God.

"Fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed,
for I am your God;
I will strengthen you,
I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous hand."
~ Isaiah 41:10

We humbly welcome any support you might consider offering at this difficult time.

With love and eternal gratitude,
