Help Our Family Support Haizley’s Brain Tumor Recovery

Hi, my name is Kyleigh, and I am Haizley’s big sister.

Haizley first began experiencing vision problems in October followed by difficulty walking, which was attributed to her poor eyesight. She soon got glasses shortly thereafter (the cutest things ever), but despite our hopes, her ability to walk did not improve.

She was brought to her primary care doctor, where several tests were done. As a result, she was rushed to the emergency department at St. Louis Children’s Hospital that same day. Haizley was admitted late on Tuesday, January 7th. After a full night of labs, bloodwork, and MRIs, the next day doctors discovered a large brain tumor on her occipital lobe, along with dangerously high levels of cerebrospinal fluid in her brain. The tumor was affecting both her vision and her ability to walk. This news was devastating for our family, but treatment began immediately.

That same day, January 7th, a drain was placed in her brain to slowly reduce the dangerous fluid levels caused by the tumor. That Friday, Haizley underwent brain surgery to remove the tumor, and thankfully, the surgeon was able to remove it completely. She spent the next two weeks at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric ICU and neurology floor, recovering, slowly decreasing her cerebrospinal fluid levels, and beginning physical therapy. On Sunday, her drain was removed, and she continued to be closely monitored while undergoing physical and occupational therapy.

On Wednesday, January 21st, Haizley was transferred to Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital, where she and our mom, stayed while receiving physical and occupational therapy. During this time, medical bills have began to pile up, and my parents have been unable to work. Haizley continues to recover. To everyone’s great relief, the pathology results showed that her tumor was not cancerous. However, Haizley will still need follow-up visits every 3 months with neurology, neurologist and ophthalmologist, getting MRI’s making sure her imaging stays clear. This has been incredibly difficult for Haizley, my parents, our sisters and I, as well as our grandparents- watching our sweet 2-year-old endure things no child ever should.

Any donation, no matter the size, would be deeply appreciated. Even just sharing this link means more than we can express. Thank you for your love, support, and prayers.
