Hello, my name is Kristin . I have been fully disabled since 2010 due to serious health problems. For many years I relied on disability benefits, but in 2020 the cost of living increased so much that I had to give up my benefits and return to work just to keep a roof over our heads. I’ve was doing gig work to survive, even while struggling with my health.

Recently my health has declined even more. I unknowingly worked for four months with a stress fracture despite the pain before I was finally able to see a doctor. I was then placed on medical leave and during that time, my husband chose to leave and stopped helping support our household. With bills stacking up and no help, I had no choice but to return to work against doctor’s orders, even though I still don’t have clearance or work restrictions from my doctor. I’ve been offered a few surgeries that may or may not help but even with insurance deductible are more than I can afford and I’m missing many appointments due to not having copays.

On top of the physical pain, my anxiety and depression have become so much worse through all of this. Every stress seems to trigger another wave of anxiety, and some days it is incredibly hard just to get up and keep going but I do, because my family depends on me.

Right now, I am fighting every day just to keep up. I haven’t been able to buy groceries since my husband left before that I was using Affirm, Klarna, and Sezzle just to feed my family, and now I can’t keep up with those payments either. We have applied for government assistance but were told we don’t qualify.

My children are working and helping as much as they possibly can, but it’s still not enough. We have only two cars for four working people, and every dollar is stretched. Our rent, electric, gas, and other bills are all due at the beginning of the month, and we are falling further behind while I am still trying to heal.

I am asking for help to cover:

• Rent

• Electric & gas

• Groceries

• Essential bills we are behind on

Anything,  truly anything will help us stabilize while I work with my doctors and try to recover safely without losing our home or utilities.
