Spike is our 4-year-old dog who will turn 5 in early May. He is normally a happy and playful dog, so seeing him suddenly get so sick has been really scary for us. A few days ago, Spike started acting completely different. He had almost no energy and clearly was not feeling like himself. Every time he tried to lay flat on his stomach, he would start whining and crying like he was in pain, and he has not been able to sleep comfortably. Soon after, he began projectile vomiting and refused to eat or drink anything. By Tuesday morning, after not eating since Monday and becoming dehydrated, we rushed him to the emergency vet. During the first visit, they gave him fluids and medications and sent us home hoping it would improve. Unfortunately, things only got worse. He continued vomiting, including green vomit, and we had to bring him back to the ER again that night. Today was our third visit because he still refuses to eat or drink and continues getting sick. The vets ran extensive blood work and X-rays to find the problem. While his blood work looked normal, the X-rays showed something abnormal inside him. Because of this, Spike now needs surgery to remove whatever is causing the issue. Unfortunately, the surgery and emergency visits are very expensive. Spike will return Thursday morning for more fluids and then surgery once the surgeon is available. Spike means the world to our family. He is more than just a pet. He is truly part of our family and brings so much love and happiness into our lives. Seeing him in pain has been incredibly hard. Any support toward his medical expenses would mean so much and help give Spike the chance to recover and come home healthy again.
