Help Our Family Recover From a Devastating Flood

By now, nearly everyone has seen the video of me getting evacuated with my family and baby.

Our home flooded so severely that my baby, my sister-in-law, our dog, and I had to be evacuated from our house by raft. My husband was out of town when everything happened, leaving us to navigate an incredibly frightening situation while trying to get ourselves, our baby, and our dog to safety.

Our home has sustained extensive water damage. Our entire crawl space is filled to the brim with water, and the subflooring, supports/stilts, front room, tool shed, and other areas of the property have been affected. Water is continuing to sit in and around the structure, and every hour that passes creates the potential for even more damage.

To make an already devastating situation more difficult, we are currently dealing with an insurance issue. We have documentation and receipts showing that flood insurance was paid through our mortgage, but we are currently being told that we do not have flood coverage. We are actively working to resolve this and provide the documentation we have, but unfortunately, the process is taking time that we don’t have.

Right now, our biggest concern is getting professional help to remove the standing water and begin emergency mitigation before the damage becomes even worse. We don’t yet know what the total cost of this disaster will be, but with the extent of the flooding and the damage to our home’s structure and property, it could be substantial.

We are also facing the immediate costs of temporary living arrangements, replacing necessities, protecting and repairing our home, addressing damage to our belongings, and everything else that comes with recovering from a flood of this magnitude.

As a family, it is incredibly difficult to ask for help. We are used to taking care of ourselves and never imagined that we would be in a position where we needed to reach out to our community. But right now, we truly need it.

Funds will go toward emergency water removal and mitigation, temporary living expenses, necessary repairs, damaged belongings, and other costs associated with recovering from this flood.
