We are Floridians who recently experienced a terrifying event—a lightning strike hit the building we live in, burning half the roof and forcing us to evacuate. The damage was so severe that the security equipment stopped working, and we had no choice but to leave our home for safety. At first, we were told we’d only be out for five days, but now it’s looking like at least another week before we can return.

Since the evacuation, we’ve been staying with family and in Airbnbs, but our funds are running out quickly. It’s been difficult to keep a roof over our children’s heads, and the uncertainty has been overwhelming. We’re doing everything we can to make sure our family is safe and cared for, but temporary housing and food costs are adding up fast.
