Help Our Family Recover After a Serious Car Accident

Hi, my name is Hope and I’m reaching out for help after a devastating car accident that has turned our lives upside down. It was the serious crash that occurred on the T intersection on Beaudesert Beenleigh Road.

We are a young family of 6, and a few days ago, my husband Ben, our 4 week old baby Tobias, and I were in a serious crash when another car pulled out on us at a T-intersection while we were driving at 80km/h. Our car was completely written off, and while Tobias miraculously came out unharmed, Ben and I were severely injured.

Ben has a damaged spleen, and I have a broken wrist, two broken ribs, seat belt burn, whip lash and extensive bruising. I can no longer walk independently and I’m in a cast for 6–8 weeks. I’m also on high doses of pain medication and oxygen just to be able to breathe properly. Because of this, I physically cannot care for our 4 children alone. They are ages 4 weeks, 12 months, 3 years and 4 years old so require lots of care. I can’t lift them, clean, or do daily tasks.

Ben is the sole provider for our family, and while he needs time off to recover, and care for myself and our little children, we cannot financially survive without his income. On top of this, we now have no car, making everything even harder.

It is so incredibly embarrassing since I don’t want to be labeled as a bad mother for reaching out. It is so difficult. We did have emergency savings for situations like this but at the end of my pregnancy I had unexpected complications leading to my husband being off work to take care of our other kids while I was hospitalised. Then when our son was born we had birth complications and daily visits to the hospital to do bubs blood tests and constant monitoring. He only just got back to work last week before we got hit by another car. It was completely derailed our lives but I can’t bare the thought of things now being harder on my kids. They are obviously worried about us and scared, I’m desperate to keep the bills paid, food in the fridge and life moving as normal as possible for them. My kids are more important than my pride

We are asking for support to help cover Ben’s time off work while he recovers from a damaged spleen, as well as so he can stay home to help care for our children while I recover, and to help us get back on our feet. It will also be used towards legal fees as our injures are severe and permanent. We also require chiropractic, physiotherapy, and psychological support for our diagnosed ptsd. At this point Ben can’t return to work for a minimum of 8 weeks, probably longer since we have no car. Any donation, big or small, would mean the world to us during this incredibly difficult time.
