My husband was arrested a year ago while driving home from lunch and grocery shopping, just a few blocks from our house. He was pulled over for a headlight issue in broad daylight and arrested for driving without a license. That single moment changed everything for our family. He spent six weeks in ICE detainment, moving between three different facilities, before we managed to bring him home on bond. He has lived in the United States since he was two years old, has no criminal history, and was previously part of the DACA Program. Now, despite his roots here and our family’s deep connection to Oklahoma, we are facing deportation in 120 days.
Neither of us has ever lived outside the country—my husband has never even visited Mexico, and I’ve spent my whole life in Oklahoma. We are being forced to uproot our lives, leave behind everything we know, and start over in a place that is completely unfamiliar. The funds raised through this campaign will go directly to covering lawyer expenses, as well as the living and travel costs we’ll face as we try to build a new life in Mexico. Every dollar will help us navigate this difficult transition and give our son a chance at stability during such an uncertain time.
We had what many would call a perfect case, but this experience has shown us that no matter how good your circumstances are, or how skilled and expensive your lawyers may be, you are not exempt from the cruelty of our government. If you can help, we would be deeply grateful for your support, your kindness, and your willingness to stand with us as we face this challenge.
