Hello my name is Christian Gardner and my dad, Thomas Gardner, is pictured with me. When I was 17 my dad was diagnosed with cancer and dementia. It had been hard, but the past 8 months have been the hardest. My dad’s dementia has gotten worse, and his cancer is taking over.
The main treatment for cancer had been chemo medicine, which if you know, is very dangerous. One evening, unbeknownst to my mother and I, he had opened a new medicine bottle we had received in the mail and he took all of the pills. This resulted in a 2 week hospital visit, a 3 week stay in rehabilitation care, and a $20,000 medical bill. As the care is exceeding how much my mother and I can handle, we are looking for a more long term option for senior living care.
The care center he was staying at was not ideal to say the least, which is why we decided he would be better off somewhere else. Currently, he is back at home with us. We have been denied at the VA (served in Vietnam) and for Medicaid which were two of the options that were given to us. We simply do not have the means to pay this bill, and I am using this as a last resort. We received the first bill today for his stay. My Mother is not able to work so she can take care of my dad, and I am leaving for college soon. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and God bless you and your families.
