This is Diane, writing on behalf of my partner, Calbert. We live in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. Calbert used to live in Jamaica and six of his siblings and many other family members still live there. Hanover, Jamaica was hit hard by Hurricane Melissa — and our family in the Clifton community is among those suffering in silence. Calbert’s family home has been severely damaged, and the foundation might not be repairable. They’ve lost much of what they owned, and like many people in Hanover, they’ve had no electricity, water, or communication since the storm. We’ve heard that four of Calbert's siblings are safe, but two are still unaccounted for because we haven’t been able to reach them — the phones are down, and roads are blocked. We’re assuming they're okay until we hear otherwise. While other areas of Jamaica have begun receiving relief, Hanover has barely been mentioned in the news, even though reports confirm it was directly in the hurricane’s path. Calbert's cousin travelled from Montego Bay to Clifton and had to go by foot on the local roads to get this photo of Calbert's childhood home, where one of his sisters was living (she had evacuated). This fundraiser will help provide: Emergency essentials such as food, water, clothing, and personal hygiene items. Communication and transport, such as gas or phone credits, if needed, to help people reconnect with each other. Rebuilding support such as materials to repair or rebuild their home if the structure cannot be saved, or for furniture since much appears to be damage. Every dollar (after fees) will go directly to affected family in Hanover. We’ll share updates here as soon as we regain contact and know more about their situation.
