Hi, everyone - my name is Sam and I’m fundraising for my wife, Val, who has been battling multiple severe chronic illnesses that have taken nearly everything from her daily life.
My wife is living with ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), fibromyalgia, optic neuritis, POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), neuropathy, MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome), anxiety, depression, and debilitating muscle spasms. She currently requires over 20 prescription supplements and medications, most of which are not covered by insurance, and the treatments with the highest likelihood of long-term improvement are also not covered.
Over the last few years, her conditions have worsened to the point that she is now 95% bed-bound. She can no longer do the everyday things she loves: She can’t play with our daughter. She can’t walk our dog. She can rarely leave the house except for medical appointments. Even small movements or sensory input can trigger crashes, pain, and days of recovery.
Watching someone you love become trapped in their own body is heartbreaking. But she continues to fight every day with courage, grace, and strength.
Why We’re Asking for Help
We are seeking funds to cover:
• Essential medical treatments not covered by insurance (ME/CFS-specific therapies, MCAS stabilization, IV treatments, neurological care, specialized testing)
• Accessibility modifications for our home (air purifiers, adaptive furniture, equipment for safe mobility)
• Medications and supplements that insurance refuses to cover
• Basic living expenses
I am currently not working and looking for a job, and caring for her and our daughter has made it difficult to stabilize our finances. This support would help bridge the gap until I can get us back on our feet.
What Your Support Means
Your donation, no matter how small, helps give my wife a chance at:
- Getting treatments that may finally slow or improve her illnesses
- Reclaiming some independence
- Reducing her debilitating symptoms
- Being able to show up for our daughter in ways she desperately wants to
- Living a life with dignity, safety, and hope
If you can’t donate, even just sharing our story means the world to us. Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us hold onto hope during a difficult time.
With gratitude,
Sam, Val, and Zora (+Sandy and Biscuit)
