Help our family battling Aplastic Anemia
Donation protected
In April 2022, our sister/sister-in-law Esther was suddenly hospitalised, and diagnosed with the extremely rare blood disease, Aplastic Anemia. She is 17 years old and, similar to extreme leukemia, will need a stem cell transplant and chemotherapy to be cured. She is undergoing treatment at Addenbrookes hospital, but the disease has left her with zero immune system, which means that she regularly contracts sepsis, as well as fungal, viral and bacterial infections, which have to be treated at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. She travels for blood transfusions 2/3 times a week, leaving her exhausted and delirious.
When not receiving treatment, due to the scarcity of beds, she is home with her family, and they are all in complete isolation, which means our parents are unable to work. There are also three other children at home. We want to help our family cover household expenses and petrol costs for the frequent hospital journeys, which are 2 - 3 hours each way. And, of course, any medical bills accumulated (she is currently receiving around £5000 worth of meds each week).
This is a massive shock to all of us, but Esther is so brave throughout all the ups and downs. We will be completing several fundraising tasks together and separately, including the Oswestry Olympians Park Hall 5k on the 17th of June. Please join us in helping to ease our parents' minds of one of their worries as they go through this nightmare. Any help will go directly to the family and is greatly appreciated.
