Help us keep our jobs!

We have come to a crossroads at The Hollar and unfortunately the business that provides jobs and food for this community is in jeopardy.  Very recently our septic system has failed because the leech field is saturated even though we put in a new system 4 years ago that was supposed to last for 10-20 years. Because of our limited space and extremely low water allowance, we are now faced with a choice: Close down or come up with $30,000 or more to put in a better system. We are going into the slowest part of our season, and will be unable to cover this cost. We greatly appreciate the love, support and any contributions. We are proud to have been here the last 11 years, and hope to continue providing great food for our customers and jobs for our community.

Thank you

From The Owners
Septic Repair will put many families out of work,

The Hollar Opened its doors on November 8th 2008. We have survived through a recession, bad winters and a flood. Our latest problem will put us under after 11 years. On Friday November 8th our septic system failed. This will be the 4th septic system since we purchased the business and second system since we purchased the property in 2015. Our business has grown immensely since we opened our doors. We started with around 36 seats and now we seat just over 200! In 2015 when we purchased the property the septic was replaced by us as our down payment of $44,000 dollars. We still owe about half that.

Our water usage is the problem even though we pay close attention and take special care to conserve whenever possible. We have a chart that is filled out everyday detailing water usage. In the past 11 years we have tripled our water usage and it is currently 680 gallons a day on the  average (substantially less than the average American restaurant). And now we need to replace the Leach field again. We simply can’t afford it. If we close, many people will have to look elsewhere for work. We live in a town of 500 people and jobs are slim pickings. We employe about 22 people year round and 30 or more in the summer. We would love to keep going and keep food on the table for our family and for our employees as well .

Please Help Us!

We are getting numerous bids but none have been submitted as of 11-14-19. We have been given approximate cost from $18,000 to $25,000, and we would be paying about $1000 a week on pumping costs until the leach field is replaced. If the work can’t be performed till mid December we would pay about $6000 in just pumping fees.

I believe once work is complete and all bills are paid we will be around $32,000 dollars to fix just the leach field. Plus we will have to close while the repairs are happening and everyone employed will be struggling. Anything we receive in donations over the cost of the septic system will be distributed to the employees after the contractors are paid.

I am not good at asking for help, especially when it has to do with money but the people that work with me and help keep my family supported have become family to me. So I am more asking for them. Any questions please ask away.
