Help IS 145Q's Families Start Again After The Fire

Fundraiser by the P.T.A. at I.S. 145Q

On April 6, 2021 our school community was deeply affected by the massive 8-alarm fire in the building on 89th Street and 34th Avenue in Jackson Heights. Due to the flooding from this fire all 133 units have been damaged and over 250 residents have been displaced.

Our school community is very saddened to see these families without a home in addition to dealing with the COVID-19 Pandemic. Many of the families living in this building are made up of low-income, working class and immigrant essential workers. Twenty-four families from our school alone were displaced. Many in our community have already donated items such as blankets, clothing, food and toiletries but this is just temporary. The outpouring of support has been incredible but after this Tuesday, April 13, our families would be able to use these funds for necessities such as extending their hotel stay, short-term housing, food, clothing, etc.

On behalf of the P.T.A. at I.S. 145Q, we would like to ensure that our families receive the assistance they need to start over and help them in the long run. Please help us help them by donating today. Your generosity will help support them during this crucial time of need.

Recaudación de fondos por el PTA de la escuela I.S. 145

El 6 de abril de 2021 nuestra comunidad escolar fue profundamente afectada por el enorme incendio de 8 alarmas en el edificio de la calle 89 y la 34 avenida en Jackson Heights.

Debido a las inundaciones causadas por este incendio, las 133 unidades han sido dañadas y más de 250 residentes han sido desplazadas. Nuestra comunidad escolar esta muy triste ver a estas familias sin hogar además de lidiar con la pandemia de COVID-19. Muchas de las familias que viven en este edificio están formadas por trabajadores de bajos ingresos y trabajadores esenciales inmigrantes. Sólo 24 familias de nuestra
escuela fueron desplazadas. Muchos en nuestra comunidad ya han
donado artículos como mantas, ropa, alimentos y articulos para higiene, pero esto es solo temporal. La effusion de apoyo ha sido incredible, pero después del martes 13 de abril, nuestras familias podrían utilizar estos fondos par alas necesidades tales como extender su estancia en el hotel, vivienda a corto plazo, comida, ropa, etc.

En nombre de la Asociación de Padres y Maestros (P.T.A.) en la escuela I.S. 145Q, nos gustaría asegurar que nuestras familias reciban la asistencia que necesitan para empezar de nuevo y ayudarlos a largo plazo.
