Help our puppy Mango run again

"Woof! I am Mango and in the beginning of 2021 I was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia. Although my humans took all the precautions to prevent me from getting this, I need surgery as soon as possible - and my owners need some help getting me there."

Our story
Hi! Our names are Anne and Aaron, and our little family was finally complete when we took our beautiful Old German Shepherd puppy Mango home on June 28th 2020. What was slowly becoming a year of horror for most with the pandemic looming, was a very exciting time for us. Growing up with his beloved German Shepherd Alfa, his BoxerX Peppa, and his SchnauzerX Bryan, Aaron had wanted a dog for years. When we moved into our new house in the beginning of May, we finally had the room to adopt a furbaby.

We went to a responsible breeder that took great care of combining the right genes to reduce chances on genetic defects to a minimum; We puppy-proofed our home; We pre-booked puppy classes; Our hearts were bubbling with love for this little creature.

Then Mango got diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia. A hereditary genetic development disorder causing the head of the thighbone to not fit in the hip socket. It means that her back legs are very unstable and when extended too far, her legs will pop out of the socket. Left untreated it will cause osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease as the body tries to correct for the instability. In other words, our little pupper is in pain right now, and it will only get worse if we don't do anything about it.

To emphasize how devastated we were: the disorder had not occurred for 6 generations in her line. We took all the precautions we could, choosing a responsible breeder, not taking her out for walks longer than her body could, and carrying her up the stairs while her hips were in their most important developmental phase. Still, none of it helped. Several different vets also assured us that there was nothing we could have done to prevent it. She got incredibly unlucky in the genepool.

We want the best for Mango, and that comes at a very steep price, with surgery costs going up to 10000 euro. Over the past weeks we've found out that we do not qualify for organizations in the Netherlands that help with veterinarian costs, and the insurance will cover nothing that is related to Hip Dysplasia. We are at the end of our rope - although we both work fulltime, we simply do not have this kind of money to spare.

The money raised is needed for:
- Specialists that will help us determine the best surgical option for Mango
- Pre-surgery physical therapy to prepare her
- Surgery (either a TPO/DPO/prosthetic hip, depending on expert opinions)
- Post-surgery rehab physical therapy
- Post-surgery medication
- Post-surgery checkups at the clinic
The goal of the campaign is a worst case estimate at 15000 euro, and it will be adjusted as the process goes along.

Mango loves to run. But she is now stuck in her kennel as she is not allowed to run.
Mango loves to play with other doggos. But she is not allowed to play with others right now as she will definitely overexert her hips.
Mango loves to be rambunctious! And we can't wait to have our hyper little puppy back.

Even the smallest donations will help us get closer to getting Mango in a surgery room. Thank you so much in advance. It means the world to us, and to Mango.
