Help Our Disabled Household Move for Stability

Hi everyone, We’re in the middle of a major transition, and we need help getting to a stable, sustainable place. Our household includes three disabled adults: myself, my partner Rick, and our roommate Jamie. All three of us are neurodivergent, navigating autism (level 2), ADHD, C-PTSD, and other health challenges that make employment impossible for us. We rely on SSI/SSDI and are doing everything we can to build a life that is safe, stable, and manageable.

Recently, things have become more urgent. Rick has been going through cancer-related health struggles, which have taken a significant toll on his energy and day-to-day functioning. Jamie is also dealing with mobility challenges following a serious subdural hematoma, which affects independence and increases the level of care needed in our household. These aren’t temporary setbacks. They’re why stability and consistent support matter so much right now.

We are planning a move to Connecticut, where significantly stronger support systems are available, especially Medicaid (HUSKY), disability services, and long-term care programs that can provide the kind of structured, ongoing help we currently don’t have access to. A central part of this plan is a close friend who is preparing to move in with us as a caregiver. This isn’t just helpful, it’s essential. Consistent support with daily tasks, appointments, mobility needs, and mental health stabilization would fundamentally change our ability to function and maintain stability. This move is about finally having a path that works.

Funds raised will cover first month’s rent and security deposit, moving and transportation costs, utility setup and essential household items, and a transition buffer while benefits and caregiver support are established. Because we live on fixed incomes, we don’t have the ability to cover these upfront costs on our own. That’s why we’re asking for help. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps move us toward a stable home and a sustainable future. Even sharing this campaign makes a real difference. With the right support systems in place, we can reduce crisis cycles, improve our quality of life, and build something that actually works long-term. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for helping us get there. — John, Rick, and Jamie
