Support Angel Joey's Recovery from Severe Burn Injuries
Donation protected

I’m Angel's younger sister Jackie. I’m by his side during this tough time. On Sunday, September 1, 2024, our dear Angel Joey Hernandez, a devoted handyman, and our cousin, Luis, faced a devastating ATV accident in Swansboro, North Carolina. We are reaching out to help Angel Joey recover from severe injuries and to commemorate Nani, his cherished labradoodle.
Labor Day weekend began like any perfect weekend outing should. Joey, his cousin Chino, and Joey's loyal labradoodle, Nani, ventured out to enjoy the Swansboro trails. Tragedy struck when their ATV flipped unexpectedly. Chino was thrown clear, thankfully receiving only minor injuries, but Joey was trapped, the ATV pinning him down and catching fire.
Chino, thinking on his feet, managed to free Joey from the wreckage. With flames engulfing them, Joey’s first thoughts were not for himself but for Nani. He extinguished the flames on Nani before rolling to put out the fire on himself. Despite his brave efforts and carrying her out the woods, we lost our sweet Nani that day, and Joey was left with burns over 50% of his body. The Nurses later told us that in the ambulance, he had given up the bed and oxygen meant for him, to Nani.
Our Long Road Ahead
Joey was urgently airlifted to ECU Medical Center and later moved to UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill. He is now facing a series of surgeries and lengthy therapies to recover from extensive burns affecting his face, arms, and legs. Each day is a battle.
How You Can Help:
Supporting Joey’s Journey to Healing
The costs for Joey’s medical care are overwhelming. As a handyman, Joey has always worked with his hands, helping others whenever they needed. Now, he needs our help. We're asking for your support to help cover his medical expenses so he can focus fully on his recovery without financial worry.
Every Bit Helps
Any contribution you can make will directly support Joey’s surgeries, therapies, and daily care needs. No amount is too small, and every bit brings Joey closer to healing.
