Thank you for visiting our GoFundMe page for our dear-old-dad, Leonard Taylor. Our 73-year-old dad was spending his Friday afternoon at home, gardening in his front yard, when he was assaulted by an unknown assailant(s). The assailant(s) came up behind our dad, struck him on the back of his head (with an unknown weapon) and then set him on fire. Our dad has sustained severe burns across a wide area of his upper body including his face, back of the head, back, arms, hands, chest & abdomen. Luckily, our dad had the fortitude to be able to extinguish the flames on his body and run into his house to call 911. Had he not been able to do so, he would have died alone in his front yard.
Our dad has been fighting for his life in the ICU for the past 6+ weeks, where my sister and I have been by his side every day. He has been intubated, placed on a ventilator and in a medically-induced coma. As a result of this attack, our dad faces an unknown future in terms of his quality of life, and we've been advised by his medical team that he will likely no longer be able to care for himself and will require skilled nursing care for the remainder of his days. Our dad is a fighter and we're extremely proud of the incredible strides he's made in his recovery, but he still has a long, painful road ahead. Prior to the assault, our dad led a very independent, active life and enjoyed several hobbies. We pray that with time and proper medical care & rehabilitation, our dad may be able to regain some semblance of his former life.
We are blessed to have raised a $10,000 reward from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for information leading to the arrest of the individual(s) who committed this heinous crime against our dad. We plan to use all funds raised by this GoFundMe campaign to pay for a portion of our dad's out-of-pocket medical expenses, which are already becoming astronomical, and potentially increase the reward to aid in capturing the assailant(s) as well as pay for our legal fees.
Our family has had a traumatic several months with recently losing our mom very suddenly to a fatal illness and now this vicious attack on our dad. We are extremely appreciative of any donation you may be able to provide to our family in this trying time.
We'd also like to send a heartfelt thank you to all the medical staff who have taken such wonderful care of our dad - you truly are our heroes!
