When Everything Is Gone, We Still Have God ❤️‍

Yesterday, my dad’s house burned down, and they lost everything.

I don’t even know how to put into words what our family is feeling right now. This wasn’t just my dad’s house. This was once our home—the house where I brought my babies home to, where so many memories were made, and where so much of our family’s life happened. Watching it burn was heartbreaking in a way I can’t explain.

But even through the devastation, I can see God’s hand so clearly.

I needed my dad yesterday, and somehow God had already put the pieces in motion to make sure he was out of the house right before the fire started. My Tio Roy was in the backyard when he heard an explosion. He opened the garage door and flames and smoke came rushing toward him. He ran out—and then there was a second explosion.

God saved them both.

They lost the house. They lost their belongings. They lost years and years of memories and things that can never be replaced.

But I am so incredibly thankful that I did not lose my dad or my tio. Material things can be rebuilt. Memories can be carried with us. But I could not imagine having to live without them.

I was watching the smoke from a distance yesterday, even recording it, not knowing that it was my dad’s house. Finding out afterward that it was theirs was absolutely gut-wrenching.

Right now, they have nothing but the clothes they were wearing. They will be in a hotel for a couple of nights while we work on finding temporary housing. They may need temporary housing for up to the next 12 months while everything gets sorted out and rebuilt.

So I’m asking—not out of desperation, but because sometimes you have to allow people to help when you’re going through something this overwhelming.

Things like toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, razors, shaving cream, bar soap, shampoo/conditioner, and other basic necessities are all needed.

Gift cards for food, groceries, gas, or prepaid cards are also incredibly helpful. And honestly, monetary donations can help with things that we don't even know they'll need yet. This is going to be a long road, and they will need more than just the immediate necessities.

As we get them into temporary housing, we will also be collecting household essentials that can be stored until they eventually have a home again—things like bedding, towels, kitchen items, cleaning supplies, and the many little things you don't realize you need until you have to start completely over.

We are grieving what was lost while simultaneously thanking God for what He protected.

I don't understand why this happened, but I know this:

God was there before the fire. God was there during the fire. And God is going to be there through everything that comes after it.

We are going to rebuild—not just a house, but a life.
