Hello
We are following up on our previous fundraiser to help our Dad, Zemanel, rebuild his home after violence in northern Mozambique (see https://www.hrw.org/news/2021/03/26/mozambique-protect-residents-fleeing-northern-town, https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/3/25/fighting-in-town-near-mozambique-gas-hub-continues-for-second-day and https://www.hrw.org/news/2020/08/14/mozambique-should-protect-civilians-during-insurgent-fight) destroyed his house and all belongings and forced him to relocate to Pemba with two young children--our brother Juju ( 9) and sister Gabriella (6). He also suffered loss of income and emergency evacuation from Palma, where he had taken a job on the LNG Gas site (Total France). From generous donations in March and April, we were able to raise about $4000, which ensured that Zemanel could build the basic structure of a home on his plot of land in Pemba. The profile photo shows the progress thus far.
We are now looking to raise a final $2000 so he can finish the job--install windows doors and roof so that he and his children can move from the one-room accommodation they are currently staying in. The cost of building materials has risen sharply in the north due to the security situation and an already perilous economic situation that has resulted in soaring unemployment, food insecurity and other shortages. Our Dad has started a very small business selling piri piri (homemade hot sauce), and hopes to soon raise chickens to sell, but needs to be more settled on his own plot and with a roof over his head in order to make this happen.
Thank you for whatever you can spare. We and our Dad (and his kids) remain eternally grateful.
Love,
Silvia, Nalani, and Miguel
