Hi friends, family, and other great people. Our dad, Brian Roth, desperately needs help for an urgent surgery (just moved up from December to mid November) to beat aggressive cancer. Please share! Anything & everything helps!
For as long as my sister and I can remember, our dad has been a model of someone who has worked hard to provide for his family, do his best to help others, and make a positive impact in his community and to those around him. Now its our turn to help and pour into him because he needs us (and we still need him).
For those who don't know him, my dad is someone you don't easily forget. For one, he's got blue hair, so you can't miss him easily. His 3 grandkids call him "G-Pa" because that's way more gangster and keeps him young. He's a kid at heart and I admire my dad in so many other ways...he's way more social than I could ever be, a big goof and a fun-starter, warm, gregarious, quirky, prank-jokes type of funny, sensitive, creative, passionate, and a dreamer.
Picture it from my angle: 27 years ago, my dad started a business in the Sonoma/Napa area and serviced the North Bay. For over 20 years I saw him work his fingers down to the bone with the support of his partner, Dan (and some of my child labor). My dad was the brand and face of California Screen Machine, and everybody knew him.....then, about 5 years ago, my dad and his partner Dan had a crazy, wild, wonderful idea to sell everything they have in the states, followed their dreams and started a boutique hotel / Bed & Breakfast in the island area of Bocas del Toro, Panamá. They call it, "The Lodge at Punta Rica", and after putting in their own blood sweat and tears, they got it absolutely right (if you haven't gone yet, you HAVE to go!!).
And then the twists that happened this year... shortly after experiencing the loss of our mother in March, our dad's 60th birthday rapidly approached and the family was hit hard again. Dad almost skipped a routine physical, but thankfully he didn't, because that is when they discovered an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
That diagnosis hit extra hard because both my dad's father and his partner's father had both passed away from this same form of prostate cancer. Thankfully, we caught it early before it spreads, but he needs surgery and doctors say we only have a short window to act before early December so we can stay in front of this.
The biggest challenge is my dad does not have health insurance in Panama and lost Kaiser coverage in the states, so all the tests and appointments so far have been paid out of pocket. Not cheap, and they still have to keep the lights on and pay their workers at The Lodge. Good news is they found a very respectable surgeon in Colombia who can do the surgery at a fraction of the cost, but it's still a lot and unfortunately more than we have or are able to give with total estimated cost around $20,000 after all things considered.
If you're able to help, thank you so much from the absolute bottom of our hearts. Your gift would help cover:
1) Surgery & hospital stay in Colombia
2) Travel & recovery cost (they say 10 day recovery in Bogota)
3)Post surgery medical & follwoup care
Thank you for taking the time to read all of this and your support. I'd do anything to help my dad and hope you'd do the same! I write this very humbly as I wish I could financially take care of this all myself and not even bat an eye. The reality though is we are not able, and he's got two adult kids and 3 grandchildren that think "G-Pa" hangs the moon.
If giving isn't possible right now, sharing this with people and groups you're involved in can make all the difference. Thanks again for reading, caring, and spreading the word to help Brian Roth.
With love,
Cris Roth & Family
