Story

Our colleague Mark Medley is in the middle of a health and financial crisis. Mark's problems began several months ago with a raspy voice that progressed to coughing up blood. Diagnosed with an aggressive large inoperative tumor incapsulating his larynx and unable to speak his ability to work decreased dramatically. As a result of a complication during a simple biopsy procedure Mark awoke in ICU with a tracheotomy tube in his throat. He quietly finished those cases he could with lawyers helping him in court when he was unable to speak. He began a recommended 7-week aggressive Chemo/Radiation Daily regimen to shrink the tumor size knowing the treatment plan would be painful, exhausting and rendering him mute during the process. Unable to work at his prior level Mark was unprepared for the sudden loss of income combined with the exorbitant cost of treatment. Two weeks into his chemo/radio treatment regimen, he developed 3 separate infections (including pneumonia) which have him in and out of the hospital since November. Today, Mark is in ICU, semi-conscious and his chemo/radiation program is halted until the infectious process is under control. Mark’s pride prevented him from asking for help sooner but that cannot continue. Mark needs our help NOW. Please join us and other friends in helping Mark keep a roof over his head, the lights and water on, food on the table and gas to get to treatment.
