Help Our Coach JD Cline Beat Cancer

This is Juju and Niuniu Zhao, members of Bear Creek Country Club and members of Washington Junior Golf Association. We, along with our parents, are inviting you to contribute in this fundraiser to help our coach JD Cline beat cancer.
Many of you have known JD for a long time in his role as Director of Instruction at Bear Creek since 2003. We first met JD in spring 2019. At the time we called him “the mysterious JD,” a knowledgeable and wise man. Over the years we began to know him as someone a lot more: a coach, a mentor, a supporter, and a friend. JD always tells us a Ben Hogan quote, “If you can’t outplay them, outwork them.” He has taught us so much about perseverance, hard work, and grit, and has inspired us to rise up and accomplish our goals. JD has made a huge impact, not just on us, but on everyone he has met. He has taught generations of golfers in the Pacific Northwest, and is a key contributor to the golf community.
In early February, JD went to see his doctor for a tickle in his throat (being careful in the era of COVID). This led to scans of his lungs showing a mass. After several imaging studies and a biopsy, JD was diagnosed with Metastatic Bladder Cancer. This advanced diagnosis was shocking to him and his family given how well overall he felt. We wish that such unfortunate circumstances hadn’t happened because JD deserves so much better, but sometimes the worst things happen to the best people.
JD is starting brain radiation and chemotherapy at the end of March. As JD says, he is a stubborn old bird and plans to fight like heck. Over the last month he has started to notice more symptoms of his cancer and he has slowly had to step back from work, and will never be able to return to a full work schedule. Depending on how he feels while going through chemo, he is hoping to keep teaching his junior golfers. He calls it, 'his unfinished business.' Your support will go to help make up for JD's lost income, help pay for his chemo treatment, and provide security for him and his wife of 52 years, Marcia. JD has said time and time again in his doctors appointments that he has the best support group anyone could ask for - and that includes all of us. Let's rally together and show JD support because of his years of coaching, wisdom and love he has given to our community.
