Help our cat Cosmo get cured of FIP

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Kaila and I'm fundraising to help cover the costs of getting treatment for my cat Cosmo. Cosmo was recently diagnosed with Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP); a rare but highly aggressive variation of a coronavirus in cats, and is fatal if left untreated.

A few weeks ago I noticed some changes in Cosmo's behavior. He began hiding from us, had very little interest in eating his food and playing, was moving a bit slower, eyes were cloudy, he had a runny nose and was sneezing, his breathing was different, and I could tell he had lost some weight. I took him in to the vet thinking he had a kitty cold; we got some bloodwork done and and result came back as highly suspicious of FIP. The only true way to get a 100% diagnosis of FIP is by biopsy, but with all the symptoms he has and his FIP antibody test coming back so high, we know this is what he has.

Our next step now is to start treatment with daily injections. These injections will need to be administer for a minimum of 84 day (12 weeks) and around the 80 day mark he will be evaluated to see if he needs treatment longer. Once out of the treatment phase, he will be in the observation phase for another 84 days. If everything goes well the entire observational period with no relapse Cosmo will be considered cured of FIP.

The meds we will be purchasing for Cosmo are anywhere between $36-$56 per vial. And for one month we will need at least 8 vials, possibly more since the amount of the medicine he will need is based on his weight. Our estimated cost for meds alone for the full 12 weeks at his current weight is $887-$1787. On top of this expense we will need to buy supplies such as syringes and needles, we will need to get bloodwork taken at the vet monthly (This typically costs us around $200), and I'm sure other expenses that I haven't even though about yet will come up too. Some people I've talked to have spent $4000 or more.

FIP is still so new to me, and I'm learning more and more each day. I've joined FIP facebook groups, I've talked on the phone with others who have gone through this with their cats, and I've seen that this treatment does work and most cats make it through this treatment successfully. We are very hopeful that our little Cosmo will do well with this! He's a very young cat and has so much life left to live. We believe this treatment will work and it will be so worth it to see our little guy come out of this and return to being our fun loving cuddly baby.

I appreciate any help that we get with this. I know this is going to be a long, emotional, and hard process for all of us. Even getting help with half of our expenses will be huge for us. All funds received will go directly towards Cosmo's vet trips and purchasing medication.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you want to read more about what FIP is here is a link that my vet sent to me: Feline Infectious Peritonitis
