Our family is reaching out during one of the most difficult times we have faced. Our brother, Steve Merryman, at only 41 and is facing a new health challenge. After several months of being sick he has been diagnosed with a rare and serious form of vasculitis. An autoimmune disease that causes the body's immune system to attack its own blood vessels and organs. He has suffered damage to his kidneys and lungs in recent weeks and required emergency care on multiple occasions. He now has a team of doctors working to stabilize his health and determine the extent of the damage, all while working on his long-term treatment plan.

As many of you know, he is a hardworking small business owner, a caring father of three, and a community-giving person who puts others before himself. Since age 14, he’s been a first responder. When his sisters wouldn’t give him a ride he would jump on his bicycle to get to the firehall before the trucks left. He has sacrificed many days, nights and holidays with his family to help others over the past 27 years. His words: “If I don’t go, they might not have enough people to respond.”

As a self-employed individual, being unable to work means no income while living and medical expenses continue to grow. If you know our family, you know it's difficult for us to ask for help. As we are all leaning in, the financial burden is becoming overwhelming, and we are asking for your support. This is not a short-term health condition; this is here to stay, and it will take time for Steve to figure out his new normal.
