I’m asking for help for a man I call my brother. Though Alex is no blood relation, he is a family member by choice. My sister and father met Alex decades ago during a trip to the Bahamas, when he helped them out of a bad situation and then spent two days being their tour guide. Though he was (and remains) poor and his life was hard, Alex had such a big and generous heart that my father and sister fell in love with him—to the extent that, though they haven’t seen Alex in more than 20 years, he remains a vital part of our family’s lives through photos and messages exchanged on Facebook Messenger.

Recently, Alex was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer, which has not yet metastasized, but which will kill him if not treated promptly. Alex lives with his mother, grandmother, wife, and baby daughter in the house he built for them. Life has become even more difficult with Alex's diagnosis, as he is not well enough to work. Alex’s physicians have arranged for him to receive complete medical care for his cancer for up to three years. We are seeking to raise the funds to cover his portion of the costs, plus provide some much-needed income to his family, whose situation will become truly dire while Alex is unable to work.

Alex’s situation would be even more heartbreaking if we did not believe we could raise the money Alex needs to save his life. At a time when so many challenges seem impossible, this one has a solution! Our family knows from personal experience how generous our friends can be. Now we hope you will help us help Alex.
