As most of y’all know, Kyleigh & I adopted Blue from the KILL shelter in Harrison County, WV a few days after the break in at our old home on May 31,2019. Kyleigh was only 17 and home at the time of the break in. Thankfully she was not physically harmed during the break in, BUT emotionally and mentally, it has taken it’s toll on us. She has fought through this like the warrior that she is but she has had our boy Blue (The rescue Great Pyrenees Mountain Dog) by her side as her best friend and ever vigilant protector. We made arrangements with the no kill shelter in Harrison County (just so we could make sure he was saved regardless because we didn’t know if he liked cats). We wanted to make sure that he never went back to the KILL shelter. So here is Blue’s story:
He was an owner turn in (and thanks to the World of Facebook) when the no kill shelter asked to post his adoption picture (which we agreed to because it helps other dogs get adopted) we found out that his owner often tied him to a tree with no shelter, food or water. The owner’s new girlfriend didn’t like him and because he had to work out of town, he didn’t have time for Blue. We also found out that the owner was warned by the sheriff’s department multiple times, that he could not leave Blue like that. So finally the owner got tired of the neighbors calling the sheriff and decided to turn Blue in as an owner turn in to the KILL shelter even though he need only drive 1/4 mile further and drop him off to the no kill shelter. Blue had one day left when we adopted him. It was by far one of the best decisions that Kyleigh ever talked me into. It didn’t take much because look at that face.
Although Blue seems to think that we saved him, we believe that he saved us. Blue has been an excellent best friend to Kyleigh (the whole family really- even the cats). We lost a rottie Roxy to metastatic cancer in 2015 and hadn’t been able to bring ourselves to adopt another dog. Until Blue.
So now that I’ve painted this picture for you, I want you to know that it is with the most heavy, worried heart that I want to tell you that Blue was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his front left carpal bone by Dr. Fraley. This is our second opinion. The good news is that the cancer hasn’t spread upward to his lungs yet and our boy Blue is a strong, boy with lots of life left in him. (He’s estimated to be 5 1/2 years old. ) So we had 2 choices:
Amputate the leg or euthanize him. Neither option is a happy one but Blue has never gave up on us and we aren’t giving up on him. Blue’s amputation will cost $1500.00 for the surgery. The chemo treatment is to be determined at a later date. Dr. Fraley, who has been wonderful, has given us hope that Blue can fight this and that based on his testing, Blue will adapt to the amputation just fine. We want to give him the best chance possible. His surgery is scheduled for March 14, 2023 with Dr. Fraley. We ask all of you, no matter what your faith or belief is, to pray, send positivity, healing energy and healing positive vibes to our Blue boy. We are aware that it is a lot of money and we will figure out how to pay for it no matter what but he IS OUR FAMILY. When I originally posted about Blue, I was only asking for prayers, positivity and healing thoughts but so many of you wonderful friends asked me to create a GoFundMe for him because some of you wanted to help that I can’t thank you enough for your love and support. This was certainly a shocking, sad and time sensitive diagnosis so anything you donate will be greatly appreciated. Please do not feel obligated to donate. We will be just as thankful for your love, prayers and/or positivity for our Blue boy. His surgery is March 14, 2023 with Dr. Fraley.
We are very thankful to Dr. Fraley and his staff for the great care that Blue has received thus far.
Thank you to all of you for showing our family so much love and care!
