Victor Bannerman is a beloved math and science teacher at Prince William Academy in Lake Ridge, Virginia. He has touched the lives of students on three continents, and has a true passion for sharing the universal language of mathematics.
This past Christmas Day, Mr. Bannerman was enjoying time with his wife and two young daughters (ages 6 and 1). The family was eagerly anticipating the birth of their third child, due any day.
But all of a sudden, Mr. Bannerman felt very unwell. Although he didn't know it then, he has diabetes, and his blood sugar had risen to incredibly dangerous levels. He lost consciousness and slipped into a coma.
Mr. Bannerman woke up nearly a week later in the ICU, with no recollection of how he'd gotten there. For a time, he was unable to speak or move; it would be days yet before he could rise from his bed. His wife and children could not visit him.
Thankfully, the doctors got his blood sugar under control, and with the help of physical therapy he began to improve. But while he worked to regain his strength, his third daughter came into the world in dramatic fashion, born at home before the paramedics could arrive! It would be another week before he'd be able to hold her.
It has been an emotional and eventful time for the Bannerman family. Thankfully, Victor is home now with his three daughters and his wonderful wife, Charity, focusing on his recovery.
But as anyone who's had a medical crisis knows, it can be hard to focus on getting better when the hospital bills start rolling in. Those bills can be astronomical.
Please donate to help our school support the Bannerman family through this difficult time!
Sincerely,
The Prince William Academy Staff
