As some of you may know my aunt Patti has been very sick. She started to not feel well on Thursday February 24th 2022. My daughter was sick the weekend before, so she thought she caught something from her like she usually does. She decided to go to urgent care on Saturday the 26th and the doctor said she was negative for COVID and probably just had a common cold. That evening she fell out of bed so I called 911. They assessed her and told us she probably just had the flu and she should continue to rest.
Patti spent the following day In bed and sleeping as instructed. I would check in on her from time to time and she would call me if she needed anything. She told me thank you for helping her out so much over the weekend and I said you don’t have to thank me. Shortly thereafter I heard a loud noise from her bedroom. Patti had fallen again and this time she was unable to get up even with my assistance. She seemed more weak and very confused so I called 911 again.
This time the medics took her to the hospital. When I arrived behind them I was not let in due to COVID. The staff asked that I call back in a couple of hours. When I called back I was informed that she was in critical condition and would soon be moved to the ICU.
What we thought was the flu ended up being a very serious and rare infection in her arm that went into her bloodstream. None of the antibiotics they were using were working to fight the infection so they had to emergently take her to surgery the day of admission. Afterwards, she spent several days sedated in the ICU on a ventilator and medications to support her low blood pressure. During this time the doctors let us know that her kidneys were failing and she would need to start dialysis. Luckily Patti is much more stable now but she has a long road to recovery ahead of her that is going to require more surgeries, dialysis every other day, as well at physical therapy.
My daughter Alice and I have been living with Patti since Alice was only 8 months old. Patti took us in and gave us a home when we needed one. Six years have gone by and she has continued to be an amazing aunt and tries to help us out wherever she can. She absolutely loves her two dogs. She rescued them and they bring her so much joy. I swear we would have a house full of them if she could. Since her hospitalization Alice and I are trying to take care of them. They are very scared and confused without her here but have been slowly warming up to me.
My aunt Teresa is trying to do everything she can to help us figure things out while Patti is in the hospital; especially the finances when it comes to the home and keeping it running.
I’m sending this out in hopes of trying to help my aunt while she is fighting to recover from this infection that almost took her life. I would like to help her with expenses for the home and the care of her dogs while she is sick. I’m trying to make sure my aunt doesn’t lose her home as well as keep my daughters life as stable as possible through this very unsure time. Any help would be genuinely appreciated. I know these are hard times. If you can’t donate money please just help us out by sharing this. It would mean the world to us. Thank you so much for your time and for all the love and prayers we have received
