Heart Warrior Mauled by Dog – Please Help Our Son Heal
Donation protected
Our son is only three years old, but he’s already lived through more than most people face in a lifetime. He was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a rare and critical condition that left him with only half a functioning heart. By the time he turned two, he had already undergone two open-heart surgeries and is still awaiting his third — the one that could give him the best chance at life.
At age two, he also suffered a terrifying episode of myoclonic epilepsy, enduring over 100 seizures in a single night. We fought beside him in the hospital, praying we wouldn’t lose him. Against all odds, he pulled through.
Earlier this summer, we set out on a peaceful family road trip — a journey across the country to give our son his first chance to see the ocean and experience some goodness after so many hospital visits. Just a week into the trip, everything changed.
Our son was suddenly and viciously attacked by a pit bull, completely unprovoked. The dog went for his head, causing devastating injuries. He nearly lost his eye and ear, and required reconstructive surgery to repair the damage. The attack left deep wounds to his head and face — and emotional scars that may take much longer to heal.
His mother was the only one with him at the time. She fought to protect him with everything she had, physically keeping the dog from doing worse. She suffered her own injuries — cuts, bruises, and trauma that still haunts her — but her actions saved our son’s life. Without her, his skull may have been crushed.
Now, in addition to managing a fragile heart condition and epilepsy, we are facing the long road of recovery from this attack. We’re far from home, away from our normal support systems, and trying to hold everything together. Between emergency care, lodging, travel, meals, trauma recovery, and preparing for his third heart surgery — we are overwhelmed, emotionally and financially.
We’re asking for help. If you’re able to donate, we are truly grateful. If you can’t, please share our story so others might be moved to give.
Your kindness, courage, and generosity are helping keep our family afloat — and giving our heart warrior another chance to heal.
From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for standing with us.
