A few days ago, my girlfriend and I came across a post about a 3-year-old Maine Coon cat named Otto who urgently needed a home. If no one came forward, he was going to be put down. We couldn’t let that happen.

We reached out immediately and went to pick him up. That’s when we learned Otto had already been through four different families just this year. No wonder he was timid at first. But after just a week of patience and love, he’s already opened up — and now gets along beautifully with our other two cats, Aslan and Chimuelo.

Since his previous caretakers didn’t know his medical history or take him to the vet, we brought him in for a full check-up: vaccines, bloodwork, general tests. Thankfully, everything came back okay — except for one imortant issue: Otto is showing early signs of gingivitis.

He’s already lost 6 of the 12 small front teeth that cats have, and he needs a full dental treatment, including a deep cleaning and a scan to see if further care is needed to prevent total tooth loss.

The truth is, we already have savings set aside for Aslan and Chimuelo — we’ve had them since they were babies — but Otto’s arrival was completely unexpected. And while we’re doing everything we can, this expense is just too much for us alone.

What breaks our hearts the most is that Otto has already been through so much. He finally found a loving, stable home — and we want to make sure he also gets the healthcare he needs to live a happy, healthy life.
